On September 2nd 2011, SESAR and the Estonian air navigation services (EANS) participated in a seminar targeted to Estonian and other Baltic states’ stakeholders.
Top management & Flight OPS representatives from airlines, airports, aviation Industry, politicians and trade associations were updated on the latest developments in the SESAR programme.
Siim Kallas – Transport Commissioner, European Commission, in his opening speech, delivered a strong message about the Single European Sky to the Baltic air transport stakeholders. “I would urge the Estonian universities to get involved in the SESAR research projects.”
On the Baltic side, a warm welcome was given to SESAR by Mr Eero Pärgmäe, Estonian Deputy Secretary General (Transport).
All attendees showed a strong interest in SESAR, and were very keen to know how they could participate in the SESAR activities. Suggestions for active involvement of the Baltics ANSP, included AIRE, WPE on long-term research, and validation exercises. As always, Patrick Ky – Executive Director – SESAR Joint Undertaking - encouraged the willingness and motivation which was expressed by the Baltic air transport actors, and welcomed their participation in the SESAR programme. He insisted on the importance of validation exercises as well as remote towers.
Other key speakers included Mr Tanel Rautits, CEO of Estonian ANS, who gave an instructive presentation on the EANS contribution to the SES developments. Anne-Lovise Linge from NORACON consortium, where EANS is a partner, presented their key areas, objectives and goals.
