The 2014 SESAR SWIM Master Class kicked off on 24 June, welcoming over 140 participants from all over the world, who are all eager to learn more about the latest SESAR SWIM developments and to compete for the annual “Best in Class” challenge.
Compared to previous editions, the audience was already very familiar with the SESAR SWIM concept and were therefore more interested in receiving practical tips and advice to develop their own SWIM services.
Over the course of the day, the SWIM state of play was presented, showing progress made on SWIM concepts, infrastructure, ATM information and services as well as on global interoperability. SWIM Tutorials and Master Class practical arrangements were also introduced to facilitate the participation in the SESAR SWIM Master Class by any interested organisation anywhere in the world.
In parallel, some 20 organisations showcased their services and applications, explaining how those may be used by other participants of the SESAR Master Class.
“During SWIM Master Class 2013, we developed with our partners Snowflake and Barco Orthogon, a prototype service to support Cross-Border Arrival Management (XMAN) operations at London Heathrow. One year later, this service is now in operational trials. The SESAR SWIM Master Class was really valuable and provided a great foundation for us to build on when developing it. Now we have made the service available, it will be difficult to switch it off, it’s so popular." said Tony Vaudrey, System Engineering Manager, NATS.
“Through the SESAR SWIM Master Class we try to lower as much as possible the threshold for organisations to get familiar with SWIM and to contribute to making air Traffic Management SWIM enabled around the globe” said Wim Post, Head of Programme Management at SESAR JU.
Several development teams have already signed up for the 2014 SESAR SWIM Master Class but participation is still open to other interested participants who are welcome to participate and develop their state of the art SWIM service. Register here.
The Best in Class applications and prototypes will be awarded during a ceremony on 26 of November 2014 in Brussels.
