The SESAR Joint Undertaking, together with six other joint undertakings (JUs), held an exhibition with the theme 'Innovation in Action' in the Espace Emilio Colombo in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, from 23 to 26 October 2017. Over the course of the exhibition, the SESAR Joint Undertaking promoted the SESAR Solution Catalogue and demonstrated some of the solutions delivered so far by its programme using its virtual reality tool.
Hosted MEP Miroslav Poche, the official opening of the event included a speech by Carlos Moedas, the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, who underlined that 'partnerships are one of the most important things we do in research'. The opening ceremony was also attended by Günther Oettinger, European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, as well as Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and representatives from the European Commission.
The JUs also held a working breakfast with MEPs, during which representatives of respective industries explained the added value of the JUs to their sectors. SESAR was represented by David Luengo of Indra, who outlined some of the notable successes of the project in delivering solutions that are now being deployed across Europe, offering benefits both to the economy and passengers.
Attending the breakfast was Karima Delli, Chair of the Transport Committee at the Parliament. She acknowledged the good work of the joint undertakings in delivering “borderless innovation”, and singled out SESAR as a key to greater transport mobility in Europe. Her comments were echoed by other MEPs, such as Jaromir Kohlicek, who was happy to see the excellent results emerging from the JUs, such as SESAR. MEPs encouraged the JUs to do more to show the benefits that they bring to European society and economy.
