The aim of this conference (8-10 November in Toulouse) is to look at how meteorological data are used by air transport, to bring out the meteorological phenomena that have a strong impact on safety, regularity and efficiency and to present the progress expected in the coming decades. The conference will be oriented towards specialists and non-specialists alike and will bring together representatives of official bodies, air navigation and meteorological services, airlines and airports. The opening session will endeavour to draw up an overview of the current interface between air traffic and meteorology and to meet the expectations of the different stakeholders. The following sessions and round tables will be based around the following topics:
- forecasting and en-route information
- forecasting and information in and around the airport
- meteorology in the cockpit
- in-flight observations and contribution of satellites
- avenues for research and development. An analysis of means for operational improvements and research is expected. More specifically all attention will be devoted to meteorology requirements resulting from the proposed concepts in the European programme SESAR and its American counterpart NextGen.
