For the fourth year running, the SESAR Research Network HALA! organised the HALA Summer School. During the event, several PhD students, Air Traffic Controllers and industry representatives participated in the summer school at La Granja de San Ildefonso in Spain from the 14 to 17 July 2014. The theme this year was “Integration of Civil Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in ATM Operations”.
Denis Koehl, SESAR Senior Advisor at the SJU and in charge of the Civil RPAS projects, gave a number of lectures on RPAS Integration Roadmap, mission design, SESAR RPAS demonstration projects and provided an explanation of existing and future operations. The summer school students were introduced to the important features of the current and future ATM system and to RPAS operations, including the related technological and operational enablers necessary for RPAS integration.
