Today EASA and the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) signed a new Memorandum of Cooperation at the EU High Level Conference on Drones in Warsaw. This new MoC replaces the existing agreement between EASA and SJU to promote collaboration on SESAR 2020, the next phase of research and development (R&D) on air traffic management. The MoC was signed by EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky and SJU Executive Director Florian Guillermet.
Core areas of cooperation include:
- Regulatory coordination and identifying the regulatory needs to prepare for the harmonised deployment of SESAR Solutions;
- Coordination of research in the areas of aviation safety, environment, and interoperability;
- Coordination of international cooperation with key third countries such as USA and China, supporting ICAO activities on the Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP) and Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP), and providing support for international technical cooperation;
- Technical advice in the areas of CNS (communication, navigation, and surveillance) technologies, drones, avionics and air to ground interoperability.
With this MoC, EASA demonstrates its support for the successful implementation of SESAR 2020.
