On the 4th and 5th October, the EUMETNET consortium invited programme partners to the 1st SESAR MET (Meteorology) workshop, hosted by Meteo-France in Toulouse.

Approximately 45 partners attended the two day workshop, where a series of talks and discussion groups took place. Topics included a wide-range of MET information, from the fundaments of weather forecasting, through to the use of probability forecasts and the developing MET Service capabilities for specific MET phenomena such as winds & temperatures, convection and icing. Further talks on day two also explored examples of the applications of MET within a variety of ATM domains and situations.

The discussions around these topics demonstrated the potential for an increased inclusion and coordination of MET throughout the SESAR programme. As one attendee said “.... I learned about a lot of projects that are going on in many corners of Europe - didn´t imagine so much activity”. A further MET workshop will be held in May 2013, at the Met Office in Exeter.
