The 4th SESAR Innovation Days will take place in Madrid, Spain, from 25 to 27 November 2014. The event will be hosted by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

Long-term and innovative research is pivotal to the future evolution of ATM. It addresses novel and/or unconventional ideas, concepts and technologies that contribute to the development of a safe, competitive and sustainable future for the European ATM System.

SESAR actively supports long-term and innovative research in the field of ATM through exploratory research activities within the programme.

The SESAR Innovation Days is the main forum for the dissemination of exploratory research results and it focuses explicitly on long-term and innovative research ideas. Download the full agenda.

The forum will also present the SESAR Research Networks, Projects and PhD research. The event will seek contributions from the ATM research community through an open call which can be downloaded here.

Call for contributions
Researchers from the various research institutes, universities, airlines, air traffic service providers and industry are invited to submit papers (limited to 8 pages) and present their ideas and research results within the areas below:

  • ATM system architecture and system design
  • Understanding and improving the ATM innovation process and innovation lifecycle
  • Paving the way to full automation
  • Human factors and safety in a highly automated environment
  • Designing resilient ATM systems
  • Uncertainty, applied modelling and optimisation techniques
  • Mastering complex ATM systems safely
  • Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) technical enablers
  • Data science and information management
  • Application of economics and new business models to facilitate a paradigm shift in ATM
  • Enabling change, including legal and regulatory aspects

Papers will be evaluated based on the innovative nature of the ideas, as well as the approach and methodology applied.

Call for posters and exhibits
Partners from both academia and industry are invited to submit abstracts for their poster displays (max. 2 posters per subject) and technical exhibits (demonstrations). As well as showing innovative solutions to ATM challenges, posters and exhibits may also address wider air transport and air traffic issues. Abstracts of one page should be submitted with a detailed description of the subject matter.
