The SESAR ALIAS II project consortium is organising a conference entitled, “Liabilities and automation in aviation: the case of RPAS and Collision Avoidance Systems”,  on 5-6 October in Florence, Italy. Hosted by the European University Institute, the conference will bring together experts from different disciplines and  domains of activity, to discuss  the many changes in  the allocation of liabilities resulting from the automation in complex socio-technical systems in ATM, with particular focus on Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and Collision Avoidance Systems. Participating academia, research centres, industry, small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),  which are interested in liability and automation, are also welcome to join the ALIAS network, a community of experts sharing knowledge and experience in the regulation of socio-technical systems – and in particular, Air Traffic Management. ALIAS II (Addressing Liability Impact of Automated Systems) is an innovative project co-financed by Eurocontrol and SESAR Joint Undertaking (Work Package E) – the EU agency responsible for coordinating ATM research and innovation in Europe.
