The Clean Sky and SESAR Joint Undertakings (JUs) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in order to foster closer links between the two research and innovation (R&I) programmes. The purpose of the MoC is to establish a cooperative framework between the two JUs, contributing to the sustainable development of the European air transport system.
Since 2011 SESAR JU and Clean Sky JU have exchanged information about their programmes to ensure consistency where possible and avoid unnecessary overlap. Building on these efforts, the MoC establishes a framework for cooperation, covering where possible joint activities in relevant areas of R&D such as:
- Avionics and ATM/communications navigation and surveillance infrastructure and services;
- Mission and business trajectory management;
- Assessing the performance targets (in particular in the area of the environment) and the complementarity between both JUs.
The MoC will also facilitate a periodical exchange on the progress of both programmes, as well as some coordination of joint stakeholder and communications activities. To implement the MoC, a steering committee will be set up, co-chaired by the Eric Dautriat, Clean Sky Executive Director and Florian Guillermet, SESAR JU Executive Director.
“The Memorandum of Cooperation between Clean Sky and SESAR is necessary to ensure a successful completion of our objectives. I am pleased to formalise today our efficient and smooth cooperation in the benefit of an innovative and competitive European aviation,” said Eric Dautriat, Clean Sky Executive Director.
“This Memorandum of Cooperation is an important step towards achieving our shared ambition of delivering high performing aviation for Europe. We look forward to working even closer with our colleagues in Clean Sky to optimise the value of both the programmes,” said Florian Guillermet, SESAR JU Executive Director.
