Release: 2012

Location: London
Description
About the exercise
This validation exercise was conducted by NATS and aimed at ensuring that ATC conflict-detection and resolution tool performance, in high-density area controlled airspace, improves when the underlying Trajectory Prediction (TP) is supported by data from an airline’s Flight Operations Centre (FOC) .
Results
A benefits assessment made at European level estimated 300 nuisance alerts avoided per day, which means a total of more than 100,000 conflict resolution actions could be avoided per year. Level-off avoidance translates into a monetary saving of EUR 1,270,000 per year; and significant fuel efficiency was achieved: approximately 2 million kg fuel economy and estimated reduction of 6,100 tonnes of CO2 per year.
