Have you ever asked how working in an air traffic control (ATC) tower could look like in the future? Are we still in a tower building or in windowless ATC Centres buildings? How is ATC provided to 5, 10 or 20 airports from one remote tower centre? Do we need new roles, procedures and assistance systems then? Are there new safety and security issues to be considered? And can we support the controllers (ATCOs) with planning tools and speech recognition functions? Can we facilitate the ATCO’s surveillance task with augmented reality devices, new safety nets and attention guidance?
