On 29 April, Siim Kallas, European Commission Vice-President in charge of Transport, visited the SESAR Joint Undertaking to get a full briefing on SESAR including recent progress and challenges. The “volcanic ash cloud crisis” has put ATM at the top of the Commissioner’s priorities. Accelerating the Single European Sky is a clear goal of Vice-President Kallas. Patrick Ky, Executive Director of SJU, explained the main principles and actors of SESAR, the progress of the programme and the way forward. M. Kallas pointed out that SESAR is a vital element of the Single European Sky. His Head of Cabinet M. Hololei as well as Senior Advisor M. Rahuoja and Member of the cabinet Ms. Manfredi participated in this informative and very constructive meeting. SESAR is undoubtedly part of the answer to make the European Sky a reality. Expectations are high and SESAR can cope with them!
