With a decision of the Executive Director, and after consultation with the SESAR partners, the first four projects of the SESAR programme are now authorised to start their execution phase.

This decision marks the approval of the Project Initiation Report (PIR), Change Impact Assessment Form (CIA) and Revised Contribution Assessments (RCAs) which together enable the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) to make a well-founded decision on carrying out a project. “This is an important step in the lifecycle of the SESAR programme as we have now moved from preparations to actually develop Europe’s new Air Traffic Management system”, says Patrick Ky, Executive Director of the SESAR Joint Undertaking.

The first four projects are led by SESAR’s members Airbus, Eurocontrol and SELEX, and they deal with ‘Airborne Initial 4D Trajectory Management’, ‘ATS Datalink Operational Improvements’, ‘SWIM SUIT FP6 project follow-up and alignment’ and ‘GNSS Baseline study’ . Together, the four projects amount to roughly € 40 million in contribution.
