Communication, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) infrastructure is the foundation for the provision of air navigation services. To make CNS more resilient and efficient, the Digital European Sky will see a move away from CNS as physical assets towards a service-based approach. Mindful of this needed change, the project will develop digital platforms and services leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to enable future data-sharing service delivery models. It aims at sharing CNS data between air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and other aviation stakeholders (e.g. civil and military airspace users, airports, national authorities, etc). The project will carry out tests using data from several ANSPs for the use by third-party application/service developers.

Learn more about the project

The overall objective of the project is to accelerate the market uptake of communication, navigation, and surveillance data services thanks to the creation and validation of the following three  CNS data solutions:

  • Multisensor surveillance tracking service
  • ATM data service provider for tactical and post operations
  • Real-Time GNSS monitoring and interference

The abovementioned solutions will provide data services to interested aviation and non-aviation stakeholders. The service provision relies on a dedicated digital platform developed by the project and data inputs from certified entities and their state-of-the-art data sources. Data is delivered through API and SWIM data output interfaces. Data governance, technical implementation and the overall service provision organisation are compliant with applicable regulations and standards, enabling data usage in safety-critical applications.

The Solutions enable virtualisation of air traffic control centres, supports unmanned aircraft system traffic management, create opportunities for development of new added-value applications and stimulate implementation of artificial intelligence.

The Solutions address digitisation, connectivity and data sharing pillars of digitalisation, contributing transversally to multiple key performance areas.
