SESAR can help, offering innovative and cost-efficient air traffic management solutions for regional airports, leading to real savings in fuel, fewer delays for airlines as well a more efficient management of traffic across the whole European network. These include the development of satellite-based precision landing tools, such as satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS) supported by enhanced vision systems (EVS), which help to increase accessibility especially in poor weather conditions to local and regional airports at a much lower cost than current landing systems.
Another is a ground surveillance solution that evaluates different options for aircraft and vehicle tracking using camera-based systems as an affordable alternative surveillance source, or in combination with other available surveillance sources such as multilateration and automatic dependent surveillance – broadcast (ADS-B) sensors.
